Tomas Tijerina was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2004. In 2006, he attended St. Mary’s University and earned his Jurisprudence in 2009.
Shortly after joining Martinez, Barrera, y Martinez, L.L.P., Tomas immediately began his career assisting Trey Martinez with construction defect cases concerning the Hidalgo County Jail and several hotel chains. Within his first 2 years of practice, Tomas was an integral part in working up and either litigating or settling several multi-million dollar cases. Within his first few years of practice, he has taken an inordinately large number of depositions for a young lawyer and was recently first chair in a Federal Court construction defect/insurance trial and obtained a verdict in excess of $2 million. Recently, he was cited by the 13th Court of Appeals for his interpretations of the Certificate of Merit laws as they pertain to construction cases. Tomas’ practice currently encompasses commercial and complex litigation, construction law, insurance law, personal injury, federal and state criminal proceedings, and general civil litigation.
